Horror Slices - Issue #16 - Merry Christmas You Filthy Animals!
BookBub Deal
Well, it’s not every day that you get one of these and I’ve been lucky enough (we’ve been lucky enough - Darklit Press and I) to capture one of these for The Devil’s Pocketbook - which means for a limited time, the book is free in digital formats across all platforms.
The deal went live yesterday and we’re already #1 across all the categories listed against the book in the Amazon US & UK stores and we’re in the top ten in the whole of Amazon’s Kindle books - I’d love to get that number one, so please pick up a copy, even if you already have the book in physical copy, because hell…it’s free and it’ll help!
If you’ve been on the fence about getting a copy, now is the perfect time to grab a copy, but also if physical copies are your thing, and you’re in America, Amazon currently has the Paperback listed at $5.85 and the gorgeous Hardback at $7.53 so it’s almost free - if you catch my meaning!
Anyway, the Bookbub link is here, so don’t delay, pick up a copy today!
The Hollywood Reporter (what now???)
There was an exciting milestone hit over at DarkLit Press recently - my publisher for ‘The Devil’s Pocketbook’ and it was reported in The Hollywood Reporter - below is a little bit about it with the link to the full article. Never in my wildest dreams did I think my name would ever appear in such a place, but it has, along with a whole host of DarkLit authors…
Renowned for horror, suspense, and dark fiction, DarkLit Press proudly announces a landmark partnership with Independent Artist Group (IAG) for film & TV representation - read more here.
Harvesting The Nightmare Fields - Now Signed with a Publisher
You may have been aware if you’ve been following this newsletter closely that at the beginning of the year, I wrote a novel called ‘Harvesting The Nightmare Fields’ - well, I am pleased to announce that this has been signed by Cemetery Gates Media, the publisher who brought out my books ‘Only The Stains Remain’ and ‘Beautiful Atrocities’ and I’m thrilled to be back working with them again.
All I can say at the moment is that it’ll be out in July / August next year and that Nathan Logan - who did the cover art for my limited, signed edition of ‘I Died Too, But They Haven’t Buried Me Yet’ will once more be crafting something deliciously dark for this one too. I’m currently having it edited by the wonderful Andy - you might know him as AustrianSpencer on social media, and what I can say from working with him, is that he’s bloody brilliant and if you are after an editor to help take your book to the next level and also for someone to challenge you and teach you, well he’s the one, trust me!
What I’m Currently Reading
I recently finished ‘The Nightmare Girl’ by Jonathan Janz which was incredibly dark, and witty and as the title suggests a complete nightmare of a book, I’m a fan of Janz’s work and have been wanting to read this one for a while and Janz didn’t disappoint, highly recommended.
I also finished ‘What Kind of Mother’ by Clay McLeod Chapman which I enjoyed, it was a little slow at first, but then it kicked on and had me saying at almost every other page: ‘What the actual f~#k’ - it’s a crazy, body horror, Southern Gothic, grief-riddled, crime/horror/missing person of a book… and in it’s in all that crazy I found the true horror that of a broken heart.
I’m just starting ‘Heavy Oceans’ by Tyler Jones and I’m only a few chapters in, but I challenge anyone to read the opening of this book and not want to continue reading, blew me away, I wasn’t expecting what happened and now I can’t wait to discover what the hell happened and is going on. This title is out through DarkLit Press and was released only a few days ago…believe me it is worth your time as is all of Tyler’s work.
Merry Christmas
I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas (whether you celebrate it or not) and thank you all for your support, for picking up my books, for reading them, reviewing them and spreading the word, it means so much to know I have a group of people out there cheering me on.
I also wanted to thank you all for allowing me to tell you what I’ve been reading and by whom, because a big thing for me, and I’ll continue to do it until I am nothing but dust in the ground, is to shout about other writers and books that I love…in the hope I might just encourage you to pick up someones work and become a fan too.
There will be more news coming soon, which I’m not sure I’m allowed to announce yet, but hopefully, it’ll start the New Year off with a bang. I’m also working on a secret project, which I’ll be starting in January, if that pans out, then it could be a crazy 2024…
Thanks for reading and be kind!
Ross
